A Legacy of Service: Ron Raboud’s Story

How One Man’s Mission Became a Movement

Serving Those Who Served

Wounded Warrior Outdoors began with one man’s deep sense of duty—not as a soldier, but as a grateful American. In 2006, Ron Raboud founded WWO with a mission rooted in personal experience and profound respect. Though he never wore a uniform himself, Ron was shaped by those who did—his father, a wounded World War II veteran, and his cousin, a Vietnam War veteran who carried invisible wounds long after the war ended. Their sacrifices etched a lasting impact on Ron’s heart and inspired a calling: to serve those who had served.

Ron believed in the healing power of the outdoors and the strength that emerges when Warriors are challenged, encouraged, and surrounded by those who care. What began as a single trip with a few Wounded Warriors quickly grew into a nationwide mission, now hosting over 100 Warriors each year across more than ten adventures. Every journey was built on more than just hunting or fishing—it was about restoring purpose, building confidence, and reminding these heroes that they are not alone.

One of Ron’s only regrets was not serving in the military himself. But as many who knew him would say, he served in the way he was called to—with his whole heart. Today, although Ron is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in every warrior we guide, every story we share, and every life we touch. At the heart of our home base, his bronzed hunting boots bear a powerful reminder: “We will never fill Ron’s boots, but what a world it would be if we tried.” Thank you for helping us carry that mission forward, Ron.

Thank you for your service, Ron!

✔ Sharing experiences

✔ Building brotherhood

✔ Adventuring

In honor of the service of our Warriors, our specialized rehabilitation programs promote healing and recovery and grant new experiences to veterans. At no cost to the warriors, we provide accessible transportation, accommodations, and facilities, enabling veterans to access outdoor spaces, cultural attractions, and leisure activities they might not otherwise be able to enjoy. Our extensive social support networks and peer mentorship are invaluable resources for our disabled veterans, providing them with camaraderie, understanding, and encouragement as they navigate the challenges of reintegrating into their new everyday lifestyle. Through our rehabilitation programs and Adventures, these individuals can receive the support and resources they need to successfully transition to civilian life and lead fulfilling post-service lives.

FINDING BROTHERHOOD

“We provide a place for Warriors to be themselves, without judgement of what they been through. Even though our Warriors may not know each other at first, they all share something most of our Warriors miss; that Brotherhood we had in the military.”

– Joshua Sust, Vetting Committee & Wounded Warrior
